Laptop died within three months
I bought this laptop for my girlfriend for her birthday in early June and the laptop has completely bricked itself already. Amazon does not allow you to return the defective item in their options and I am getting a runaround from Acer. The computer was used mostly for netflix and simple internet browsing and the computer has no malicious software or was running any sort of heavy software in the slightest. I am extremely disappointed with this product and i am disappointed in Amazon and Acer now that I am out $600+ - Reviewed by Nigel (Reviewed in Canada on January 13, 2019)
Recommendation: Avoid
Laptop worked reasonably well for first couple months (after I removed the default bloatware). Didn't do any serious modifications or editing of the registry. After that and up until now though, the computer has been running increasingly into hard drive problems (using 100% hard disk nearly all the time; makes laptop virtually unusable due to sluggishness). I've done everything I can think of (update drivers, rollback drivers, clean install Windows) and the problem remains. The fact that the problem persists after a clean install suggests it's a hardware problem and if this is the quality one can expect from Acer after not even a year of use, well then I just can't recommend anyone buy this and I certainly won't be getting another Acer computer.Update: April 16th, 2019.Occasionally can get the hard disk problem to stop by repeatedly killing tasks in task manager, but this is time-consuming, inconsistent and an only-temporary fix. Still pure trash. - Reviewed by Robert (Reviewed in Canada on February 16, 2019)
What a disaster!
Wish I could click zero stars - Received my computer at 3PM on a Friday, and 29 hours later on the Saturday, and 4 calls later to ACER support, the computer still did not function. If you think of things in terms of a "time is money" equation, I have already invested more "time" trying to get this laptop up an running than it is worth. While ACER support was very "helpful" and "sorry" for my experience their solutions did not resolve the setup issues. When the tech support person on call 4 repeated the suggestions I received that did not work on call 2, I knew this was going NOWHERE real fast. Thankfully, I have ordered through Amazon fulfillment which offers a return, so wish me luck with this process as it is the first item I have ever had to return to Amazon, and I have ordered hundreds of items over the years! While I am confident my experience with Amazon will be satisfactory in this process, I will never order an ACER product again. Hope this helps those considering an ACER purchase! - Reviewed by Blair Stringer (Reviewed in Canada on July 10, 2019)
Cheap. Really really cheap.
Don't buy this cheap product. I expect this quality from a $100 computer, but not this. Had it less than a year and everything about it seems cheap. Speakers are already blown out even though they were always quiet. It has a massive issues connecting to wifi when everything else is. Battery life is about the only good thing about this computer. Buy at your own risk but I wish I hadn't and am now trying to use the warranty to fix the POS. - Reviewed by Patrick Gendron (Reviewed in Canada on February 12, 2019)
- Reviewed by Jenny Kang (Reviewed in Canada on March 24, 2020)
Unpleasant item
There are three main reasons as to why I would like to return this Acer Aspire 3.First of all, the monitor is very unpleasant. The viewing angles are terrible and the quality and lighting of the monitor is highly unsatisfactory. My older child has continued to make complaints about the a blueish glow appearing at the bottom of the screen.Secondly, the keyboard format and the lack of back lighting. I have often found myself mistakenly clicking keys and buttons such as backslash instead of enter, despite being relatively adept at typing. This is more of a personal issue but it is highly detrimental to overall work efficiency.Thirdly there is an noticeable lack of quality both within the laptop's build and it's performance. The material that composes the majority of the laptop feels plastic-esque and cheap which hinders the "feel" of the laptop. Also whenever the laptop is performing any somewhat decent load lik e playing the game "Minecraft", the fan starts producing an unbearably obnoxious noise that is reminiscent of a jet engine taking off from its takeoff zone. - Reviewed by V.M (Reviewed in Canada on January 25, 2018)

Laptop meets and exceeds expectations, although it came with a bunch of stuff I needed to uninstall. Processes tend to seize up a bit if too many things are loading at once, and downloading isn't the fastest out there, but it handles general browsing, video streaming and most gaming well. - Reviewed by R. Decent laptop overall, but be wary of ACER technical support/warrenty
Overall, I like this laptop. It worked really decently for what I paid. The camera was a bit blah, and could be tons better, but for what it was, it was decent. It was working fine for 4 months, and then one day windows upd ated and it bricked my laptop. Now since I purchased this in November 2019, I still had warranty until November 2020.However, dealing with ACER technical support... I've had nothing but issues.ACER technical support put in my claim as a tablet initially, the wrong purchase year, etc. It's been a real struggle to get a shipping label from ACER to send in my laptop for repairs. This alone is what makes very cautious and skeptical to purchase another laptop or even a tablet from ACER.
